The Force will be with you. Always.

Queue the theme music because you can’t talk about Star Wars without the theme music starting to play. It is an automatic reel that plays in the back of my mind whenever the subject comes up. Star Wars is pretty important to me and my family. It was a set of movies my son Justin, my daughter Kat and I could all identify with. We all enjoyed them and that was rare when they were teenagers to find something we ALL liked.

“For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is.” – Yoda

My daughter was a huge fan and watched all the movies with her son Drake when he was little. When she passed away he really identified with the movies and wanted to watch them ALL THE TIME! He wanted to watch them more than cartoons. He can quote so many lines from the movies. He knows details of all the movies and can tell you what happens in each movie. He would say lines before the actors when he was about six. I think it was a connection to his mom. He was four when she passed but still at 15 years old he still has that Star Wars fever.

Don’t underestimate the Force.” – Darth Vader

My son also is also a huge fan. When he was younger he enjoyed the movies also but I would say he is a bigger fan today as an adult. I even signed him up for a Star Wars of the month club because it felt right. He loves star wars so much that he decorated his youngest daughters baby room in a Star Wars theme. He made most of the items himself so they are in pink!! It is quite a feat to decorate in Star Wars for a girl. It is totally adorable! She is named after Star Wars too! Her name is Daisy Rey after Rey in Rogue One who is played by Daisy Ridley. His second to the youngest daughter Abby loves Darth Vader. She even dressed up as Darth Vader for Halloween one year. It definitely is a family obsession. I love to see him passing his enjoyment of Star Wars onto his daughters and his wife too.

“Well, the Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It is an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together.” – Obi-Wan

My husband and I have a tradition to head to the movie theatre on Christmas morning. We are hoping the next Star Wars film “The Rise of Skywalker” that is due to release on December 20th sticks to the schedule so we can enjoy it with Drake on Christmas. Maybe I can get my son and his family to join us.

My favorite character in Star Wars is Yoda and I love the concept of the ‘force’ and relate that to the energy that is within us all. We have the control to make so many things happen if we want to. I think the force runs strong in all of us. It is how we choose to use that force that makes us who we are.

“Close your eyes. Feel it. The light…it’s always been there. It will guide you.” – Maz Kanata
